Wakefield Snapethorpe Primary School

EYFS

At Snapethorpe, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a nurturing and inspiring start to your child’s educational journey, with provision for children aged 3 to 5 in our Nursery and Reception classes. Following the EYFS curriculum, our dedicated staff carefully plan learning experiences that meet each child’s individual needs, build on their interests, and support their ongoing development.

We are passionate about fostering confident, independent, and curious learners. Children are encouraged to explore, investigate, and ask questions, developing their own ideas through meaningful, hands-on experiences. We place a strong emphasis on building self-esteem and confidence, helping every child to recognise and achieve their full potential.

Play is at the heart of our approach. We provide a safe, stimulating, and engaging environment, both indoors and outdoors, where learning is fun and purposeful. Our curriculum is designed to motivate and inspire children from all backgrounds, ensuring that every child feels valued, respected, and secure.

We believe that high-quality early years education lays the foundation for lifelong success. By working in close partnership with parents and carers, we ensure that children are well supported and ready for the next stage of their learning journey. At Snapethorpe, we celebrate every child’s uniqueness and strive to create an inclusive environment where relationships are built on respect and care.
Through rich learning opportunities, we encourage children to explore, collaborate, take risks, and develop their own thinking. Our aim is to equip every child with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive both in school and in an ever-changing world.

Starting Reception:

We are delighted that your child will soon be joining our Reception class and beginning their school journey with us.

Starting school is an important milestone for both children and families. To help support this transition, the government has produced a Starting Reception booklet to give parents and carers clear, practical information about what school readiness means and what to expect as children begin school. It provides helpful advice on building key skills such as independence, communication and routines, helping children to feel confident and ready for their first days at school.

In addition, we have created our own parent and child transition booklets, which includes lots of useful information about our school, daily routines, and key skills you can support your child to develop at home.

We look forward to working in partnership with you to ensure a smooth, positive start for your child. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our Early Years team.
