Black History Month
Unfortunately this year we had to cancel our Black History Month workshops due to Covid and being unable to have visitors within school during this period of time.
The children in KS2 still had the opportunity to take part in guided reading sessions about individuals in history who had large influences on society such as Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King. During Gogglebox sessions, the children were given opportunities to lead discussions in specific individuals that they wanted to talk about or find out more about as well as positive role models in society such as Nelson Mandela, Marcus Rashford, Mary Seacole, George Floyd.
2019-2020 Black History Month
The children took part in an assembly about Black History Month focusing on famous sports people due to our class names being Olympic gold medallists this year. Children then experienced a workshop of 'African dance' where they explored traditional African dancing as well as locating Africa on a map and understanding the reasons behind the dance moves relating to everyday life. Follow up work was then completing in the classrooms around specific individuals who changed the way black people were treated through certain time periods.
