Our Learning Mentors provide a complimentary service to teachers and other staff in school. They help address the needs of pupils who require support in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential.
The Learning Mentors work with a range of pupils. Their role is wide ranging, but the key aim is helping pupils of all ages and abilities. They may work with pupils in one to one or group settings. They may support pupils who are finding it difficult to get along with classmates; pupils who would like to talk to someone about their problems; pupils who may have low self- esteem and need some confidence building; pupils who feel they are always getting in to trouble or pupils who may have experienced a loss.
Pupils can be referred by their teacher or other school staff for a variety of reasons. Or pupils themselves can ask for help from a Learning Mentor.
Our Learning Mentors have supported pupils in improving self-esteem, confidence and motivation; improving friendships and relationships with staff, peers and family; building a more positive attitude towards school and learning; having the ability to deal with situations and conflict; improving attendance and punctuality or reducing behaviour incidents.
